Consultation on Cosán, a Draft Framework for Teachers' Learning

Last October, the Council embarked on a consultation process with teachers to learn about their experience of professional learning. The goal was to enhance our understanding of their learning journey so as to better inform a national framework for teachers’ learning.

The first phase of consultation began with a blank slate when the Council sought feedback and ideas from registered teachers. More than 3,300 teachers joined the conversation. We have now analysed all of this feedback and developed a first draft of the framework, Cosán.

The name Cosán, the Irish word for pathway, has been chosen to reflect the fact that learning is, fundamentally, a journey, and one in which the act of travelling on that journey is more important than the destination.

The draft framework is rooted in the core values which underpin all of the Council’s work: shared professional responsibility, professionally-led regulation and collective professional confidence.

As part of the second phase of consultation, we are now inviting teachers, and all partners in education, to continue in the conversation, and help shape the framework.

An online feedback form will be available early in the next school year.

The final phase of consultation will involve a series of workshops for teachers in October/November. Further details will be made available in due course.

Feedback on these draft proposals can be submitted no later than close of business on 1 December by emailing cosan@teachingcouncil.ie. We look forward to hearing from you.
