History and Structure of Irish Education - Aptitude Test

The History and Structure of the Irish Education System Aptitude Test is administered twice a year by the Teaching Council. It is designed to facilitate persons registered under Regulation Four of the Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations, 2009 with the condition that they demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge and understanding of this subject. This is a compulsory course on all Teaching Council accredited post-primary initial teacher education programmes in Ireland.

Applicants applying for registration under the terms of EU Directive 2005/36/EC must be afforded the choice of addressing this condition/shortfall by means of an Aptitude Test or Adaptation Period. This test fulfills the Aptitude Test requirement.

The Explanatory Note provides information on the aptitude test, the marking scheme and sample questions.
