School Placement Shared Learning Day

The Teaching Council's Guidelines on School Placement provide a structure for school placement and are aimed at promoting collaboration and balance of responsibility between programme providers of initial teacher education and schools.

The Teaching Council hosted a Shared Learning Day on school placement in January. The day saw attendees engage in collaborative discussion, and share innovative practices in the area of school placement.

The event was attended by co-operating teachers, student teachers, school principals, education staff from the Higher Education Intuitions (HEIs) providing programmes of initial teacher education and the support services.

Five of the HEIs presented a variety of innovative practices in school placement with contributions from co-operating schools and teachers. Attendees then engaged in discussions stations, after which the Teaching Council presented an overview  of the connections between school placement and Droichead.

The day ended with a lively and engaging panel discussion on the partnership between, schools and other stakeholders. The day was received very positively as a worthwhile and informative experience that made tangible links for attendees through collaboration and sharing of learning.

“Great to see so many ideas and excellent presentations to inspire us, and the fruitful collaboration links made throughout the day.”

“Fantastic event bringing together all the key thinking on school placement.”

The Council remains committed to ongoing collaboration and facilitation on school placement and partnership.
