In 2009 the Council adopted a Code of Practice for Council members, including  the Chairperson, the Director and the Secretary. This document:

• sets out a Code of Corporate Governance for the Teaching Council
• acts as a guide for, and sets out the functions of, the members of the Council, the Chairperson, the Secretary and the Director
• establishes their respective authority and responsibilities
• delegates certain functions from the Council to the Director
