Welcome

Do you intend to start teaching or change schools

in the 2010/2011 School Year?

If you are planning to take up a teaching position in a Department of Education and Science funded school on or after September 2010, you will need to be registered with the Teaching Council in order to comply with Departmental employment circulars.  Registration applicants should commence the registration process, which includes Garda vetting, as soon as possible and no later than 3 May 2010.  Applicants should note that Garda Vetting is currently taking 13 weeks to complete. Further information on how to apply for registration is available here.

The above does not apply to those completing initial teacher education programmes in Ireland in 2010. There is a specific process for newly qualified teachers and information about graduate registration can be found here.

Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Teaching Council, the professional body for teaching in Ireland. The Teaching Council was established on a statutory basis in March 2006 to promote teaching as a profession at primary and post-primary levels, to promote the professional development of teachers and to regulate standards in the profession.

On this website, you can find out more about registration, teacher education and all areas of the Council's work and access the latest news stories, on-line publications and the Council's newsletter, Oide.

As always, I welcome your feedback on this website or on any area of the Council’s work.
