The induction workshop programme is designed to meet the particular professional development needs of newly qualified teachers (NQTs) as they make the transition from being a student teacher to being a qualified teacher with full classroom responsibility.
The programme comprises a series of 12 workshops provided by the National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT) in collaboration with education centres  and  is  tailored to meet the  professional development needs of NQTs during the three years following graduate registration. It builds on the learning which took place during initial teacher education. 

The workshop programme is funded by the Department of Education and Skills and engagement in 10 of the 12 workshops is a requirement for all NQTs who complete their teacher education qualification in 2012 and subsequently. In addition, other teachers who apply for registration from 02 July 2012 under Regulation 2 (primary), Regulation 3 (Montessori and other categories) and Regulation 4 (post-primary including VECs) are required to complete the induction workshop programme provided that they have not previously:

  • met the requirements of Post Qualification Employment (PQE) (post-primary)
  • met the requirements of Probation (primary)
  • completed an induction programme in another jurisdiction.
