REGISTRATION
If you are a Primary or Post-Primary school teacher who qualified in Ireland, you can apply for registration using the application forms below. However, if you qualified outside Ireland and wish to teach in a recognised school* in Ireland, you must apply to have your qualifications assessed prior to being granted registration. A signed application form, and original proof of identity and qualifications are mandatory requirements for registration, so applications cannot be completed online or sent to the Council via e-mail.

REGISTRATION INCLUDING QUALIFICATIONS ASSESSMENT
Applicants are advised to complete a Garda Vetting Form at the time of applying for the assessment of their qualifications, as it takes between 8 and 10 weeks to process this form. This form can be obtained by contacting the Council, as the Garda Central Vetting Unit requires that it cannot be made available as a download. Please see the Vetting section of this website for further information.

Additional form for Physical Education Applicants
Applicants seeking registration as a teacher with Teacher Education qualifications in Physical Education must also complete the PE1 form. Download PE1 Form.
Application for the Assessment of Qualifications for information purposes only
Applicants applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education may wish to have their undergraduate qualification assessed, for information purposes only, to see if it meets the subject criteria. (In this case they are not applying for registration.) The form may also be used by those already registered and seeking assessment of an additional qualification. APPLICATION FORMS TO NOTIFY THE COUNCIL THAT THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROBATION OR POST-QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
FORM B for Post-Primary teachers who have completed their first year of teaching
To satisfy the condition of Post-Qualification Employment (PQE), applicants must provide evidence of 300 hours' teaching experience in a recognised school, verified and signed by the school principal. A minimum of 200 hours of the approved experience must be teaching a curricular subject to a class of at least 14 students. Up to 100 hours of the approved experience can be carried out in a learning support, special needs, language support or guidance counselling role. A teacher must complete this requirement within three years.
Conditional Registration is granted to registrants who have not completed the required duration of teaching service in a recognised school (or its equivalent). On fulfilling this condition, registrants should complete Form B, have it signed and stamped by the school principal and return it to the Teaching Council, who will then remove the registration condition.

FORM C for Primary teachers who have completed the probationary process
This form is for Primary teachers who began service on or since September 2010, to provide evidence that they have completed both the service and the professional competence requirements of probation.

CHANGE OF DETAILS ON THE REGISTER OF TEACHERS
If you wish to change or update your name, title, address, employment or qualification details on the register, please download and complete the appropriate form and return it to the Council with the necessary documentation.

TEACHING COUNCIL CONTACT PERSON
The Teaching Council is establishing a network of teachers who will act as contacts between the Council and teachers in their schools. It is hoped that one registered teacher from each school will be the Teaching Council Contact Person, who will distribute publications and other information amongst teachers in the school.
