The Teaching Council is currently reviewing how it recognises and accredits degree programmes for teacher registration. The Council is also re-examining existing Post-Primary curricular subject criteria.
 
While this review is ongoing, the Council has temporarily ceased accepting applications from HEIs for General Recognition of degree programmes.  In the meantime the existing subject criteria will continue to be applied. Individual applicants meeting these requirements can apply to the Council to have a degree recognised for the purposes of registration as a teacher.
 
The Council will consult Higher Institutes of Education as part of the ongoing review and will brief them fully on any revised arrangements.
