The Teaching Council is committed to the continuing education and professional development of teachers and to facilitating research in the areas of teaching, learning and assessment. With that in mind, the Council launched its first scheme of bursaries in May 2007. A further three schemes followed and 106 research bursaries have been awarded to date.


This research has the potential to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Ireland. We have begun publishing summaries of bursary recipients’ research here on our website. Over the coming months, that work will be prioritised. Over time, this will become a valuable resource for teachers and all with an interest in teaching, learning and assessment. As this will be the main focus of our research work for now, there are no plans to run a further scheme of research bursaries this year. When bursary schemes are resumed, this page will be updated.
