Nomination Dates

The nomination period for the 2020 Teaching Council elections is from 9 January, 2020 to 4.00pm on 30 January, 2020.

Nomination Papers

To be submitted by post or by hand delivery

A candidate for election to the Council must be nominated in writing by means of a nomination paper in the relevant form attached below. Please select a form from the relevant category below.

Copies of these forms can be downloaded from the links above. Alternatively, they can be obtained at the premises of the Teaching Council or can be posted to your residential address by request to the email address below.

Candidates must be entered in the Electoral Roll in the Electoral Category and in the Geographical Constituency for which they are seeking nomination.

This nomination should be signed by 15 Electors whose names are entered in the Electoral Roll in the Electoral Category and in the Geographical Constituency for which the person is nominated to be a candidate.

The completed Consent Form (A) signed and witnessed by an eligible teacher, Nomination Paper (B) and Appointments of Agents (C), if required, should be delivered by the nominee in person, or by post, to:

The completed documentation must reach the Returning Officer at the address above during business hours (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) between 9 January, 2020 and 4.00pm on 30 January, 2020.

Nominations sent by fax or email will not be accepted.

A nominee for election may appoint one or more agents and the name of the person or persons so appointed must be notified to the Returning Officer in writing not later than 4.00pm on 30 January 2020.

It is the responsibility of the nominee to ensure that all documentation has been completed correctly and is submitted on or before the deadline of 4.00pm on 30 January 2020.

Nominees are encouraged to engage with the Returning Officer well in advance of the deadline to ensure that their documentation is in order.

Candidate Statements and Photos

Nominated candidates must also submit the following by 4.00pm on 30 January, 2020 by email to:

  • An electronic headshot image of the nominated candidate in JPEG or PNG format of 30mm (width) x 40mm (height) and a resolution of 300 dpi. The head should be centred in the image. A frontal pose looking directly at the camera and showing full face must be used and should be taken against a plain white, cream or light grey background.
  • A statement not exceeding 200 words setting out the candidate’s vision for the Council and outlining the reasons why they feel they should be elected. The statement can be submitted in Irish or English or a duplicated version in both languages, provided that the overall limit of 200 words is not exceeded for each language. The Returning Officer reserves the right to copyedit or not publish a statement where he considers the content to be derogatory or defamatory.

Photos and statements cannot be accepted after 4.00pm on 30 January, 2020

Photos and statements of valid candidates will be published on the Teaching Council website and on the online voting system.
