Teachers require vetting for initial registration, renewal of registration (re-vetting) and employment purposes.
Teachers applying for registration must be vetted through the Teaching Council as they are required to
provide documentary and other evidence to enable the Council to satisfy itself that a person is a fit and proper person to be admitted to the register as set out in Section 31(5)(b) of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2012 and Section 10(1)(b) of the Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations 2016 and Teaching Council [Registration] (Amendments) Regulations 2016.
Renewal of Registration (Re-vetting)
Registered teachers who do not hold a National Vetting Bureau (NVB) disclosure, as they were vetted prior to the establishment of the NVB on 29 April 2016, will be required to be re-vetted. Teachers will be issued re-vetting requests on a scheduled basis. In order to be eligible to renew their registration teachers must apply for re-vetting.

Section 33 (5)(a) of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2012 and
Regulation 4 (SI557) of the Teaching Council (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.
Registered teachers can check their vetting status by logging on to the My Registration section of the Teaching Council website www.teachingcouncil.ie

- The Council may having regard to the information contained in the disclosure of a registered teacher, who has requested vetting for employment purposes, assess and consider that information under Part 5 of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2012.
