Droichead is designed to reflect the importance of the induction phase of the teacher’s lifelong journey. It is also flexible so that a school can choose to form their Professional Support Team in a way that suits its setting. Some schools may choose to form their Professional Support Team from within their own staff. Some schools may choose to have an external member for the Professional Support Team, who is a practising teacher in another school who has experience of Droichead. Some schools may choose to develop partnerships with other schools and form an inter-school Professional Support Team. This team can support Newly Qualified Teachers who work in the schools and help develop collaboration between the schools.
A number of schools have used the external model during the pilot phase. The Professional Support Teams were both formed with a teacher from outside their school, experienced in supporting Newly Qualified Teachers. In both these cases the schools had Teaching Principals. These videos were recorded in June 2016.
