Guidance for higher education institutions (HEIs) and schools on planning and facilitating school placement in the academic year 20/21, in the context of Covid-19 is available here.
This guidance note was published by the Teaching Council in August 2020 following consultation with stakeholders and the Department of Education. This guidance recognises a variety of sites of practice and learning for school placement. It also acknowledges that flexibility in terms of modes of assessment of student teachers by HEI tutors is necessary and outlines a range of feasible options that can be considered by HEIs.
The guidance continues to apply following the closure of schools for in-person learning since Christmas. The Teaching Council and Department had indicated that this guidance would be updated in January, but it is not now deemed necessary to do this and the current guidance as published in August 2020 remains in place.
