Application Processing Timeframes

Due to the current Covid-19 emergency the Teaching Council offices are closed to the public. Staff are working remotely and whilst we are accepting applications for registration, delays should be expected. It is not possible for the Teaching Council to guarantee the 4-6 week processing timeline for those holding Irish qualifications and the 12 week timeframe for those with overseas qualifications that require assessment. Applicants for registration are asked to ensure that all forms and supporting documentation submitted are correct and fully completed in advance of submission, as otherwise this leads to additional unnecessary delays for both the applicant and others.

Vetting timelines

The vetting process may take up to 6 weeks, so applicants are advised to apply for registration at least 12 weeks in advance of their planned return to (or commencement of) teaching.

Registration timelines for teachers qualified in Ireland

The registration process may take up to 6-8 weeks from receipt of all application documentation and depending on the time of year. You are advised to apply for registration in advance of your planned return to or commencement of teaching.

Registration timelines for teachers qualified outside of Ireland

The assessment and registration process may take up to 12 weeks from receipt of all application documentation and depending on the time of year. You are advised to apply in advance of your planned return to or commencement of teaching.
