How do I Register?

The registration process for Route 1 Primary, Route 2 Post-primary, and Route 4 Other depends on whether an applicant qualified in Ireland or outside Ireland.

Applicants for Route 3 Further Education should follow the options below for Qualified in Ireland (regardless of where qualification was attained).

The registration process for Route 5 - Student Teachers is open only to student teachers who have successfully completed the first two years of an accredited undergraduate Initial Teacher Education programme in Ireland.

1. Applicants must meet the registration requirements set out in the Revised Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations 2016
2. As part of the registration process, the Teaching Council considers evidence of character. Each applicant for registration must:
   • Have a Character Reference form certified by an appropriately qualified person
   • Undergo a process of vetting. This may take up to 6 weeks, so applicants are advised to apply for registration in advance of their planned return to (or commencement of) teaching.
