Applying to Complete Droichead

Droichead is the only route of induction for all Primary and Post Primary Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) registered after 1 June 2020.

Welcome to the online portal for teachers applying to complete the Droichead process.  Before applying to commence the Droichead process it  is your responsibility to ensure that you read and understand the following documents so that you are fully informed of the procedures and criteria for Droichead :

• The Registration Handbook provides an overview of the Droichead process
• Section 2 of the Post-qualification Professional Practice Procedures and Criteria provides important information on the Droichead process, including the settings where it may take place, duration of practice required, the two strands of Droichead and concluding the process
• The Post-qualification Professional Practice Conditions Transitionary Arrangements outlines the flexibility that has been introduced to support the process for teachers, schools, and PST members.  It includes flexibility introduced on an exceptional basis due to the impact of Covid-19.

Before applying for Droichead, it is essential that you consult with your Principal and ensure that you have his/her approval, and that he/she is willing to facilitate you through the process by providing at least two of his/her own trained Professional Support Team (PST) members. Alternatively, your Principal may contact the National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT) to arrange the establishment of either an External PST model or an Inter-schools model, to work collaboratively to support and mentor you during the Droichead process.

Regardless of which PST model you use, you are required to have the support of at least two PST members. (Note: commencement of your Droichead process can only occur when your PST members have completed at least two days of PST training. Conclusion of your Droichead process can only occur once your PST has concluded all required days of their PST training (i.e. be fully trained)). A copy of the Teaching Council email confirming approval to commence Droichead will be required by the PST in your school to commence your Droichead process.

When you login to the Registered User Login, please ensure you check/have the following before you start your start your Droichead application:

• Your employment record is updated with the correct details. This can be changed in the “Employment Details” section 
• Your email address is correct. Check this in the “Personal Details” section
• You have your correct school roll number
• You have your PST names and their Teaching Council registration numbers

Log in to MyRegistration where you can now apply to commence the Droichead process. Any queries you may have relating to registering for Droichead may be directed to conditions@teachingcouncil.ie. Please provide your Teaching Council Registration Number, School Name/Roll Number, and employment details on all correspondence.
