A Chara,
Keeping schools open safely continues to be a priority for both the State and school communities nationwide. However, COVID-19 is continuing to pose challenges for schools in securing substitute teachers, at both primary and post-primary level. For this reason, it is vital that as many registered teachers as possible are available to fill substitution requirements that may arise.
If you are not currently working and/or have any capacity to be available for substitution needs, please ensure that you are registered with the Sub Seeker facility on www.educationposts.ie.
Sub Seeker is a free service within www.educationposts.ie which facilitates the short-term recruitment of registered teachers and is a vital source of substitute teachers for schools. Sub Seeker allows teachers to show up to ten days of availability.
Once registered with Sub Seeker it is essential that you keep your availability for substitution positions up to date on a weekly basis. This will ensure that schools have reliable access to registered teachers to meet their substitution requirements. Please find details appended on how to access Sub Seeker.
Please note that any registered teacher, regardless of their route of registration, may provide substitution cover at both primary and post-primary level.
The recruitment and employment of teachers will continue to be handled by school management and their related patron bodies, subject, as usual, to the necessary registration and vetting processes in line with the professional standards regulations of the Teaching Council. Throughout the pandemic the Teaching Council has introduced a range of measures to support school communities. This communication forms part of the wider approach to help sustain the operation of schools at this time being co-ordinated by the Department of Education in consultation with all stakeholders in education. Teachers have responded admirably and with the utmost professionalism to keep teaching and learning going for their students. By encouraging the maximum possible availability among teachers for ongoing and current substitution needs, we can collectively ensure that our school communities receive all the help and support they need.
Míle buíochas / Many thanks,
