A Chara,
I hope this email finds you well.
As you are aware, the re-opening of schools, and keeping them open safely during COVID-19, is an absolute priority for the State and for school communities nationwide. Schools are facing serious challenges in securing substitute teachers at both primary and post-primary level.
One of the most critical areas of need is ensuring that as many registered teachers as possible are available to fill substitution requirements arising because of COVID-19. Schools need more substitute teachers than ever before to fill the resulting gaps which COVID-19 has imposed across the school community.
If you are not currently working and/or have any capacity to be available for emergency substitution needs, do please ensure that you are registered with the Sub Seeker facility on www.educationposts.ie.
Once registered with Sub Seeker it is essential that you keep your availability for substitution positions up to date on a weekly basis. This will ensure that schools have reliable access to registered teachers to meet their substitution requirements.
This communication is part of a range of measures introduced by the Teaching Council to support school communities during COVID-19. It forms part of the wider approach to help sustain the operation of schools at this time being co-ordinated by the Department of Education in consultation with all stakeholders in education.
These are extraordinary times. Teachers have responded admirably and with the utmost professionalism to keep teaching and learning going for their students. By encouraging the maximum possible availability among teachers for ongoing and current substitution needs, we can collectively ensure that our school communities receive all the help and support they need.
If you have any queries about this process, please contact www.educationposts.ie.
The recruitment and employment of teachers will continue to be handled by school management and their related patron bodies, subject, as usual, to the necessary registration and vetting processes in line with the professional standards regulations of the Teaching Council.
Míle buíochas.
Tomás Ó Ruairc, Stiúrthóir / Director
