Wednesday, 24 February, 4.30pm
Meet your Panel

Facilitator: Tomás Ó Ruairc, Director of the Teaching Council

  • Don Golden, Principal of Scoil Bernadette, Montenotte
  • Geraldine O’Loughlin, NCSE Advisor
  • Teri Doyle, Parent of a Post-primary student
  • Heather O'Doherty, Special class Teacher in Firhouse ETNS
  • Megan Murphy Fields, Post-primary student
Welcome to the second webinar in the 2021 Learning for All series where we aim to support teaching and learning by connecting good ideas across school communities.

The panel will focus on supporting teaching and learning for those with additional and special educational needs (SEN). Panellists will be given an opportunity to describe how they’re managing the current situation, including the return to school, things that are working well and challenges being faced. The importance of connecting with one another and focusing on what’s important right now will be discussed.

The webinar will help us reflect on last year’s closures and explore what’s different this time round, and what has remained the same.  Practical supports and guidance will also be signposted for teachers, principals, parents, and students.

Please feel free to submit topics or questions below and we will pass them to the panel.
Lighting a Fire! All things Teaching and Learning with the Teaching Council
Lighting a Fire! All things Teaching and Learning
Lighting a Fire! All things Teaching and Learning joins the many ways in which the Teaching Council communicates with teachers and the wider education community. Each show should have one guest per episode, which allows the time and space to delve into a topic. Tomás will be joined by a guest host, which helps create an informal style where difficult topics can be talked about in an easy manner.
The Teaching Council has a wealth of material in the form of webinars and recorded events, and we hope to reformat some of this into podcasts so it can reach a new audience. We have reformatted some of FÉILTE’s sessions, and hope to convert more, depending on the audio quality of the original recordings. We are currently publishing one podcast a month. There are now three episodes on the Teaching Council’s podcast channel, and also available here on our website:
  1. Creating safe and supportive spaces in schools and education for LGBTI+ teachers and students (November 2020)
  2. Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, is a keynote speaker at FÉILTE 2020! (December 2020)
  3. FÉILTE tackles the perennial issue of inclusion in education (January 2021)
