A Chara,
I hope this email finds you well and that you have enjoyed the summer break.
As we begin a new academic year, I want to re-iterate to you that keeping schools open safely continues to be a priority for the State and for school communities nationwide. COVID-19 may continue to impose challenges in 2021/2022 in securing substitute teachers at both primary and post-primary level. For this reason, it is vital that as many registered teachers as possible are available to fill substitution requirements that may arise because of COVID-19.
If you are not currently working and/or have any capacity to be available for substitution needs, do please ensure that you are registered with the Sub Seeker facility on www.educationposts.ie.
Sub Seeker is a free service within www.educationposts.ie which facilitates the short-term recruitment of registered teachers. Sub Seeker allows teachers to update up to ten days of availability.
To access Sub Seeker, log into your Job Seeker account by selecting the login button on www.educationposts.ie. If you do not have a Job Seeker’s account, you can create one via the Register button. Once logged into your account, access Sub Seeker by selecting My Account under your name on the right of the menu and then selecting Sub Seeker.
If you are not registered for Sub Seeker, log into your Job Seeker account on EducationPosts.ie, select ‘My Account’, select ‘Sub Seeker’, select ‘Register for Sub Seeker’ and follow the steps. For more information, review the Sub Seeker FAQs here: https://www.educationposts.ie/page/faq/ss-seekers
Once registered with Sub Seeker it is essential that you keep your availability for substitution positions up to date on a weekly basis. This will ensure that schools have reliable access to registered teachers to meet their substitution requirements.
Please note that any registered teacher, regardless of their route of registration, may provide substitution cover at both primary and post-primary level without any implications for the 5-day rule.
If you have any queries about this process, please contact www.educationposts.ie.
The recruitment and employment of teachers will continue to be handled by school management and their related patron bodies, subject, as usual, to the necessary registration and vetting processes in line with the professional standards regulations of the Teaching Council.
Throughout the pandemic the Teaching Council has introduced a range of measures to support school communities. This communication forms part of the wider approach to help sustain the operation of schools at this time being co-ordinated by the Department of Education in consultation with all stakeholders in education.
These are extraordinary times. Teachers have responded admirably and with the utmost professionalism to keep teaching and learning going for their students. By encouraging the maximum possible availability among teachers for ongoing and current substitution needs, we can collectively ensure that our school communities receive all the help and support they need.
Finally, during the summer months the Council has added 3,404 newly qualified teachers onto the register of teachers. On behalf of the Council, I’d like to congratulate and wish each newly qualified teacher the very best in their professional career as a teacher.
Míle buíochas / Many thanks,
