What is re-vetting?

As a registered teacher, you are required to undergo re-vetting every 3 years. 

Therefore, if your National Vetting Bureau (NVB) disclosure is three years old, you will be contracted by the Teaching Council, via email, inviting you to complete a re-vetting application process. 

You must complete the re-vetting process when requested in order to renew your registration.

I have received an invitation to apply for re-vetting. How do I apply?

There are two options available to you: 

1. To commence the two-stage vetting application process, simply select the 'Click here to log in to MyRegistration' link contained in the 'Re-vetting Notice' that has been sent to you by email. 

or

2. If you cannot access the 'Re-vetting Notice' that has been sent to you by email, you can log into your MyRegistration portal account on the Teaching Council website and click into the Vetting icon on screen. 

In order to access your MyRegistration portal, you will need your username and password. 

  • Your username is your email address. 
  • If you cannot remember your password, simply access the MyReg Step-by-Step Guide and refer to 'Forgotten/Reset your password' section of the document.

What browser should I use when applying for re-vetting?

We recommend that you use either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. 

What does Stage 1 of the re-vetting process involve and how do I apply?

In order to apply for re-vetting, you must:

2. Log into your MyRegistration portal account on the Teaching Council website. Please have your username and password to hand. 

  • Your username is your email address
  • If you cannot remember your password, access the MyReg Step-by-Step Guide and refer to 'Forgotten/Reset your password' section of the document. 

3. When you have successfully logged into your MyRegistration portal account, click into the VETTING tile/icon on screen. 

4. Go to 'Re-vetting for Teachers' section

5. Click on the Start Re-vetting button

6. Please review your personal details section as it is important that your correct details are recorded on the Register of Teachers so that all communications regarding your registration can be successfully sent to you. 

7. You must supply two supporting documents for re-vetting

  • Proof of Identification (Group A) 
  • Proof of Address dated within the last six months (Group B)

8. Finally, you must read the 'Declaration' section and tick a box, confirming that you have read and agree to this declaration. 

What documents are accepted/not accepted under the Stage 1 vetting application process?

Proof of Identification (Group A)

The following documents ARE accepted: 

  • Current driving license (preferred option)
  • Current passport (any nationality)
  • Irish Public Services Card 

Proof of Address - dated within the last six months (Group B) 

The following document ARE accepted: 

  • Utility Bill (Gas/Electricity/Landline/Broadband ONLY)
  • Bank/Credit Card Statement
  • College Registration Correspondence
  • Document received from a Government Agency containing address 

Your submitted proof of address documents MUST correspond with your current address on the Register 

It is important to note that any document NOT dated within the last six months will result in your vetting application being returned to you for correction. 

The following documents ARE NOT accepted as proof of address: 

  • Insurance documents
  • Mobile phone bills
  • Car Insurance
  • Home Insurance

Important Note: 

Please ensure that all details such as name, date of birth, and addresses are clearly visible on the copies submitted.

Please also submit, if applicable, a copy of your Marriage/Divorce/Deed Poll certificate if your name does not match the name of your Group A and/or Group B documents.

I have completed and submitted my Stage 1 vetting application to the Teaching Council. How do I know if it has been submitted correctly?

When you submit your completed vetting application to the Teaching Council, you will receive a screen prompt as follows: 

"Thank you for submitting your re-vetting invitation, you will receive an email inviting you to commence Stage 2 of the online process which includes the submission of all addresses since birth. Once Stage 2 has been submitted and reviewed you will then be able to renew your registration". 

Can I track my Stage 1 vetting application with the Teaching Council?

Yes, you can track and check the status of your Stage 1 vetting application via your MyRegistration portal account. 

  • Log into your MyRegistration portal account.
  • When you have succesfully logged into your MyRegistration portal account, click into the VETTING tile/icon on screen. 
  • Refer to the 'Current Vetting Application' section. 

Here you can check the status of Stage 1 of your re-vetting application. 

My Stage 1 vetting application was returned to me for correction. How do I upload the requested documents to the Teaching Council?

Please DO NOT return your corrected documents via your MyRegistration portal account. 

Corrected document should be returned to the Teaching Council by email ONLY to: vetting@teachingcouncil.ie

Please include your registration number and full name and address when emailing the document(s). 

I cannot access my MyRegistration portal account. What should I do?

The Teaching Council has developed a list of MyReg FAQ's in order to assist with any query you might have in regard to accessing your online portal account.

What does Stage 2 of the re-vetting process involve and how do I apply?

The vetting application is a two-stage process. 

Once you have successfully completed Stage 1 of the vetting process, you will be guided to completing Stage 2 of the process. For Stage 2, you will:

1. Receive an email from the National Vetting Bureau with a direct link to the online vetting application form. 

2. You will have 30 days to complete and submit the online vetting application to the National Vetting Bureau. 

3. You must include all your addresses from birth to present including all overseas addresses. 

4. You will also be required to enter full postcodes (6 characters) for each Northern Ireland address at which you resided (if applicable). 

Once the NVB have processed your vetting application, you will:

1. Receive an email from the National Vetting Bureau stating that your vetting disclosure has been issued to the Teaching Council. 

2. Receive an email from the Teaching Council containing a link to your vetting disclosure once it has been processed.

3. Be required to log in or create an account with Digitary to view your disclosure.

Can I track my Stage 2 vetting application?

Yes, you can track your Stage 2 vetting application with the National Vetting Bureau. 

In the email you receive from the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) you will be provided with a tracking number. 

You can track the progress of your vetting application (in real time) using the tracking number provided via the NVB Website. 

What is Digitary?

Digitary is the Teaching Council's online solution that you will use in order to receive your vetting disclosure. 

You will be able to view and share your disclosure with your employers or potential employers online using the Digitary platform.
