Statutory Instruments

On occasion, law made by the Government allows bodies such as the Teaching Council to make rules or regulations to add details about how a particular provision in primary legislation will operate in practice. These rules or regulations are made in the form of a Statutory Instrument (SI). Under the Teaching Council Act, 2001 (as amended), the Minister for Education has consented to the making of such rules and regulations using Statutory Instruments (often referred to as Secondary Legislation).
