The allegation was that a registered teacher, was convicted in the Circuit Criminal Court of two counts of an offence triable on indictment, namely defilement of a child under 17 years of age. The allegation was proven.

The Panel of the Disciplinary Committee decided to remove the teacher’s name from the Register of Teachers and that the teacher would not be eligible to apply to be restored to the register, under section 31 of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2015, before the expiration of a period of ten years.

The decision of the Inquiry Panel was confirmed by the High Court on 25 August 2021.
