An inquiry took place before a Panel of the Disciplinary Committee in respect of Mr Seamus Walsh on 10 March 2022.

The Panel decided that the allegations were proven as to fact. The allegations are summarised as follows:

That, on or around 26 November 2019, Mr Walsh was convicted in the Circuit Criminal Court of approximately eight (8) counts of an offence triable on indictment, namely theft contrary to section 4(1) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 in that he stole money from his former partner. That, on or around 26 November 2019, Mr Walsh was convicted in the Circuit Criminal Court of approximately two (2) counts of an offence triable on indictment, namely using a false instrument contrary to section 26 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 in that he forged two (2) cheques.

Following the Inquiry, the Panel of the Disciplinary Committee decided to remove Mr Walsh’s name from the register of teachers and that Mr Walsh would not be eligible to apply to be restored to the register, under section 31 of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2015, before the expiration of a period of five years.

The Disciplinary Committee Panel’s decision was confirmed by the High Court on 30 May 2022. Date of Notice: 10 October 2022
