The Teaching Council has revised its registration regulations. The Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations, 2025 were signed into law by Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee on 16 October 2025. These new regulations replace the existing Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations, 2016.
The revisions to the Regulations have been made following the Council undertaking a periodic review of the existing registration regulations. The revisions strengthen the Council’s objective of maintaining standards and regulating the teaching profession. A public consultation in relation to the revised regulations was held from 27 August to 27 September 2024.
One of the revisions enables teachers who have qualified outside of the Republic of Ireland to apply for registration and complete their induction in the Republic of Ireland, on a time bound basis. Specific eligibility and qualification requirements are applicable under this provision. This timebound provision will open for applications on 22 October 2025 and will close on 31 December 2027.
